“missiles / from massacred mandibles” You always do such a great job of pairing sound with emotion! I particularly liked those lines in te opening. The tone was kept up very well throughout!
Thanks Wil! I think alliteration has to be my favorite. Like salt it's easy to over do, but when it's there, it just brings the flavors out. 🍽 (Now I realized I haven't had breakfast yet) haha
Very powerful Josh. Seemed like a scene from Blood Meridian in the beginning. Then I scrolled down to the devastating discovery, that you were describing something way more recent, something that's still happening every day.
Is the number the number of people killed? I almost could not enjoy the poem because of the table right underneath it drawing my attention, but after I finished the poem and went back into the poem it made sense. War is sad, worthless, and only fuels my selfish desires for cheap products.
thank you as always Josh for speaking out against war. It is important to have the voice.
This is the number of missiles fired in each conflict. I'm not sure the deaths. I saw the strikes on the news in Yemen two days ago, and while they were mainly airstrikes, I think they were also "tomahawk strikes." So this is what prompted this poem.
I had actually trained on the submarine quite a bit to conduct one of these strikes. Fortunately, I was never involved in a real strike. But both before and after I left, my sub conducting missile strikes. I felt a bit different about things back then though.
Martin, as always, it's a pleasure to respond to you! You always chime in. I'm going to have to add you to the "producer" list of the bitpunk.fm cassettes to acknowledge how awesome you are for always stopping in.
It’s so tragic. It’s a beautiful part of the world, I can’t help but imagine what it would be like if not incinerated by rockets and people living in constant fear of randomly being targeted. Thank you for writing about this, Josh.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure tomahawk missiles were used in the attacks on Yemen just yesterday. But it wasn't confirmed. Anyway, it prompted this poem. Thanks for reading Simon.
Yeah, I didn't think most people would get the tomahawk reference, which is pretty niche tbh. But then I saw this chart and honestly, the chart alone could be a poem by itself.
