Lovely article as always and you make me reflect on my presence outside of Substack and the physical nature I would like to leave. On the first point, I obviously just need to do the heavy lifting and finally buy a domain to start a website, which is just when I get the time. On the second, I've been thinking of doing something similar to what Whitman did with Leaves of Grass. Publish my works as seen here and then over time continually add to the physical copy, versus the traditional route of publishing based on a theme.
That’s a great point about Whitman! I think it’s great we have this platform for the instant sharing, but I feel sad if it things just stay here. Even the outside SEO is quite bad so finding anyone’s posts from outside Substack organically is difficult as well (which a website would help with).
I am jealous of that Shakespeare trip! I did manage to see As You Like It in the park last week and it was excellent aside from one thing. One of the actors had a buggy mic that kept dropping out. This was an older gentleman playing the duke and even sitting close to the front I struggled to hear him. I can only imagine what it was like in Shakespeare's day with no amplified sound.
My analog August is going well. I've been writing out my first drafts by hand. At least when substack goes down I'll still have those notebooks
The Globe had decent acoustics but I imagine every actor had to project more than with microphones.
I wrote a draft of this article longhand as well. What I noticed is when I went to transcribe it I pretty much had it memorized. Rather, I didn’t have to look word for word at the page. So it wasn’t too painful!

Once again, thanks for the push either way.

We were so close to meeting, I was in Luton this weekend for a wedding.
We met in spirit.
Yeah, that happened a long time ago. Looking forward to having a pint or two. Or a coffee or two
:) I made it to Kosice which is the closest I’ve been to Romania yet! I am giving a talk in Prague sometime 2-4 October so I will be back soon.
See what my schedule is, but if I can I am definitely meeting you and @ebolacola.org
Did you know “they stole my thunder” comes from copying a sound effect for thunder in a play
ah, see there you go! It all comes back to cannonballs on rooftops!
What a trip, and way to go! Looking forward to seeing the photos.
Yeah, they went through the airport scanner for carry-ons… but it was pretty slow film hopefully it comes out ok.
Josh! Learning something new as always. sitting behind a play would make me so angry today, anyway, hope all is well!
Clickbaity title. The flatearthers are disappointed 🤣🤣
Yes but they will learn something about Shakespeare! :)

Good to hear from you Daniel!
This is great great news, a play written by you will be brilliant.
Thank you! Well, I’m starting with Shakespeare so hopefully I can’t butcher it too much :)
