Reminds me of a scene from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Thompson has the TV blaring when the front desk calls. He tells the clerk to speak up because "people are being killed." The clerk freaks out thinking there's a murder happening but he calms down when Thompson clarifies that he means on the TV in Vietnam
It's a classic really. When I re-looked it up apparently it was also redone in 2019, again using headlines from that year. I considered that, but didn't want to update this every year so I tried to make it a bit more future-proof, let's say.

I recently acquired the criterion collection edition of this film -- I should rewatch it over the holidays!
I do really like Hunter, but his story is so sad. Especially as he was nearing the end.
But if you want a Hunter S. Thompson experience, listed to his audiobooks. Songs of the Doomed id recommend. The level of commentary is unmatched.
I tried to match it with a book review I did recently, but it doesn't come close 🤣
Agreed. I also recently read The Curse of Lono and I could really see him sliding down at that point. I will definitely check that the audiobooks.
After you mentioned this previously, I found out his entire collection call "the gonzo tapes" is on youtube.
noting inspiration by simon and garfunkel is a great touch, gonna listen to that song now
