vocal vibrations flutter —
waves of kisses rolling
through the air.
In the womb,
we hear,
before we see —
calming soothing sounds
support the floating fetus.
Bards bellow ancient ballads,
honoring Veles,
keeper of the flock.
Sounds spark,
images ignite,
wine loosens throat strings
as songs burn throughout the night.
Veles is ancient Slavic god with many associations including livestock and music.
Oh the bardly joy, I love it! I studied Slavic mythology for my illustrations before and I was pleasantly surprised to see the name Veles/Volos referenced. Definitely helps ground your poem in its time period.
